  • Pennsylvania Newspaper Association 2012 Keystone Press Awards: First place in series category for the charter school articles that ran in July 2011.
  • 2010 Media Award from the National Low Income Housing Coalition for a series of articles that profiled Centre County residents struggling to afford housing and examined the underlying issues.
  • Western Pennsylvania Press Club 2011 Golden Quill Awards: Finalist in the enterprise/investigative reporting category for a four-day series that showed how low-income workers struggle to find affordable housing in Centre County. Circulation under 45,000 division.
  • Pennsylvania Associated Press Managing Editors 2011 News Excellence Competition: First place in investigative reporting category for a series of stories tracking how stimulus money was spent in Centre County. Worked with three other reporters: Anne Danahy, Mike Joseph and Nick Malawskey. First place for enterprise reporting for “Priced out: High rents drive housing crisis,” which examined the lack of low-income rental housing in Centre County. Worked with four other reporters: Danahy, Chris Rosenblum, Sara Ganim and Lauren Boyer.  Second place in business reporting for “Power Play,” a series of stories looking ahead to electricity deregulation. Worked on the project with two other reporters: Nick Malawskey and Anne Danahy. Circulation between 15,001 and 30,000.
  • Pennsylvania Newspaper Association 2011 Keystone Press Awards: First place in investigative reporting category for a series of stories tracking how stimulus money was spent in Centre County. Worked with three other reporters: Anne Danahy, Mike Joseph and Nick Malawskey. First place in the ongoing news coverage category for reporting on the DUI arrest and resignation of former State College Area School District Superintendent Richard Mextorf.  Circulation between 20,000 and 39,999.
  • Western Pa. Press Club 2010 Golden Quill Awards: First place for a series of investigative stories that showed how the actions of school board members — and their decision to enter into a complex financial agreement, known as an interest rate  swap — put millions of taxpayer dollars at risk. Won in the continuing coverage category and was also the Ray Sprigle Memorial Award, a best of show honor, for newspapers with a circulation under 45,000.
  • Pennsylvania Newspaper Association 2010 Keystone Press Awards: First place in the investigative reporting category for the swap stories. Second place in the news feature category for The Great Math Debate, which described two different views of how math should be taught — and the rancor the debate was causing among elementary school parents and teachers. Circulation between 20,000 and 34,999.
  • Pennsylvania Associated Press Managing Editors 2010 News Excellence Competition: Second place in the investigative reporting categories for the swap stories. Second place in the enterprise reporting category for a five-part series that profile laid off workers who returned to school in the hopes of finding a new job. Circulation between 15,001 and 30,000.
  • Pennsylvania Newspaper Association 2007 Keystone Press Awards: Honorable mention in the business or consumer story for an article describing the local food movement in Delaware County.
